Many utilities are moving ahead with their Smart Utility Programs by developing their own Smart Utility Roadmap.

The typical roadmap includes two parts.

First, there is an evaluation of the existing utility infrastructure and technology. This provide a good baseline and often identifies low hanging fruit.

Second, there is an evaluation of what are the best types hardware, software, or services to best help the utility meet it's goals. This includes a high level cost-benefits analysis and implementation plan.
